Kaltenberg Castle is a popular excursion destination and offers a nice restaurant for resting. Today's four-winged complex largely dates back to reconstruction work in the mid-19th century. In front of the main castle there is a larger area with simple residential and farm buildings, which were also built in the 19th century. The entire complex is surrounded by a medieval moat and densely wooded.
A highlight is the brewery "König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei". It has existed since 1876, but beer has probably always been produced at Kaltenberg Castle. About 100,000 liters of beer are brewed annually in the historic walls. The brewery can be visited during guided tours.

Car or S-Bahn: How to get to Kaltenberg Castle
Car: The best way to get to Kaltenberg Castle by car from Munich is to take the A96 in the western direction.
Public transport: The S-Bahn S4 goes to Geltendorf, from there it's about 5 kilometers to Kaltenberg Castle, which you can partly cover by bus or on foot.
History of Kaltenberg Castle
The castle was built in 1292 by Duke Rudolf I. Since then it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, and the owners have also changed repeatedly over the centuries. The Kaltenberg Castle Brewery was founded in 1876 by Sigmund von Willibald.
In 1954, the Wittelsbach family bought the castle, and today it serves as the residence of Luitpold Prince of Bavaria, great-grandson of Ludwig III, the last King of Bavaria.
