The history of the church
Timofey Vasilyevich Prokhorov, called Father Timofey by the people of Munich, was a hermit from Russia. After his first vision of Mary, he wandered the country, met his wife Natasha in Vienna, and finally arrived in Munich.
There the couple settled and built a chapel next to their hut, which was later expanded into a church.
As building material, they used rubble lying around from the Second World War and all kinds of garbage. For example, the ceiling of the building is silvered with glittering chocolate paper.

Neither Catholic nor Orthodox
When construction work began on the Oberwiesenfeld for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the Olympic site was placed further north than planned in order to preserve the small church.
The building was subsequently named East-West Peace Church, because the church of Timofey and his wife Natasha is neither Catholic nor Orthodox, but is considered a symbol to reconcile the East and the West and all Christians. A second chapel is dedicated to the Archangel Michael.
Father Timofey died in 2004 at the age of about 110 (his exact date of birth is unknown) as the oldest Munich resident until then. His grave is located in the Westfriedhof.
