Calypso at the Oktoberfest

Here you can get nostalgic: The Calypso was one of the hottest rides at the Oktoberfest in the sixties. Today, the Kreuzdrehgeschäft, which is the last of its kind, is located at the Oide Wiesn ("Old Oktoberfest").

Calypso: The predecessor of Breakdance

A somewhat quieter variant of the rather wild Breakdance, that's how Calypso can best be described. Of course, this is no coincidence, because calypso is considered the official predecessor of Breakdance. The gondolas on the turntable move fast, but not breakneck, and the Caribbean look still provides relaxation today.

In the 1960s, when the number of fast-paced rides was even more manageable, the Calypso was one of the big attractions at the Oktoberfest because of its innovative principle at the time. In the 1990s, the operation was then discontinued, before the Calypso celebrated its comeback in 2010 for the Oktberfest anniversary. And it was at the Oide Wiesn, where it still stands today – as the last of its kind in the world.
