Oktoberfest tradition of the Löwenbräu-Festzelt: Good roar, lion!
There was a Löwenbräu tent at the Oktoberfest for the first time in 1910, but the characteristic lion above the main entrance was not erected until 1949. The figure is 4.50 meters tall and emits a rolling “Löööwenbräu” every minute - which is particularly popular with children. Together with the 37-metre-high Löwenbräu tower, it is therefore unmistakable which brewery can be found in this tent.
Tradition is very important here, which is emphasized, for example, by the boxes in Bavarian white and blue. The Löwenbräu festival tent was managed by Oktoberfest veteran Ludwig “Wiggerl” Hagn from 1979, before Stephanie Spendler took over in 2019. She has managed it together with her son Lukas Spendler since 2023.
Atmosphere in the Löwenbräu-Festzelt

If you know a bit about soccer, you can imagine why the tent is particularly popular with 1860 Munich fans. After all, the TSV team is also nicknamed “the Lions”, so you will always meet lots of people from Giesing here. At the same time, the festival tent also attracts an international audience.
During the day, there are many regulars, which is not least due to the traditional character of the tent. The party atmosphere, which always breaks out in the evening, is provided by the band "Die Heldensteiner", whose interpretation of the Beatles classic “Hey Jude” is a real treat. In the dark, the 16,000 LED lights also create a very special atmosphere.
