Oktoberfest tradition of the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke: From small tent to wooden log cabin
The Käfer Wiesn-Schänke literally started out small: in 1971 the tent started with just 40 seats, today there are almost 3,300. The “Käfer tent” has had the well-known wooden log cabin style since 1972. Traditionally, the party lasts longer here than in the other Oktoberfest tents, as the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke, like the wine tent, is open until 1 am. It is also a tradition that you cannot get in without a reservation.
The name of the tent goes back to the “Käfer-Schänke”, a restaurant that opened in Prinzregentenstraße in 1970. The Käfer family's delicatessen, the cornerstone of today's business, was already a Munich institution in the early 1930s.
Atmosphere in the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke

The Käferzelt is less of a beer tent and more reminiscent of an Alpine pasture in the mountains. The quaintness of a ski hut is combined here with elaborate floral decorations and all kinds of antiques, so that you almost feel like you're in a tavern in the Bavarian Alps. The atmosphere is often exuberant, and a polonaise through the tavern can be seen from time to time.
But the special thing about the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke is its clientele: the celebrity factor is high, with numerous Hollywood stars, politicians and well-known sportspeople having enjoyed a cool beer and a fresh snack here. The highlight is the annual visit by the FC Bayern team, because when the star team drops by for their traditional Oktoberfest visit, the crowd outside the tent is huge.
