Oktoberfest tradition of the tent: Hofbräuhaus on the Theresienwiese
Interestingly, the traditional Staatliches Hofbräuhaus am Platzl has only had its own tent at the Oktoberfest since 1952. It has been run by the Steinberg family since 1980, who have introduced significant changes over the decades. For example, the Hofbräu festival tent is the only tent with a spacious standing area.
And another tradition from the Hofbräuhaus continues in the tent: the angel Aloisius, the famous character from Ludwig Thoma's novel, watches over the guests. According to legend, however, he does not rejoice but grumbles because he does not get his beloved beer in heaven.
Atmosphere in the Hofbräu-Festzelt

The largest Oktoberfest tent has become a cult venue, especially among visitors from the English-speaking world, so there is a party atmosphere in the evenings. This is also ensured by the standing area, where people like to dance. Nevertheless, the atmosphere can be quite rustic during the day, thanks to the 12 hundredweight of hop vines hanging everywhere.
If you want to go to the tent with your family, it's worth visiting on Tuesdays, as 600 places are always kept free for families from 11 am to 3 pm. There are also reduced prices for food and drink for children.
